A guest is someone who opened your FadeTalk link and chats with you in their browser. They choose a display name and start writing: there is no app to install and no account to create. Guests are always labeled as guests, can report or leave at any time, and see your nickname and a generated avatar, never your email or phone number.
Why the other person should need nothing
When you hand a stranger a way to reach you, the tool that is convenient for you is rarely the one that works for them. The moment the other person has to install an app and create an account, many of them stop. For someone who talked with you briefly at an event and wants to send one message, the download, the sign-up and the new account weigh more than the message. The person sending the link never sees that weight, because they already use the service; the person receiving it sees all of it. A browser is the one thing every phone and computer already has.
What happens when someone opens a link
- They open the link in their browser and enter a display name.
- On a single-use link, they join the chat. By default the link then locks, and it opens again if they leave or you decline or block them.
- On a personal link, they send a request, and the chat opens when you accept.
- Someone already signed in to FadeTalk joins with their account instead of as a guest.
What each side sees and controls
| Guest | Link owner | |
|---|---|---|
| Needs | A browser and a display name | A FadeTalk account |
| Sees of the other | The owner's nickname and a generated avatar | The guest's display name, with a guest label |
| Can | Report, leave | Decline, block, report, burn or pause the link |
Limits worth knowing
Screenshot alerts work only in one-to-one chats between app users, so captures on a browser screen are not detected. Translation uses AI only when both of you turn AI on. And as with any chat, what a guest has already seen or saved cannot be taken back. Guest-enabled rooms allow browser entry and reading without signup. Guests must switch to an account and verify a phone before sending in Korean or unknown-region host rooms. Confirmed non-Korean host regions permit guest sending without verification, based on the server host account region. Place-room guests do not have translation or AI reply suggestions.
The test for any contact method is what the other person has to do to receive it. If the answer is longer than opening a link, that much of the conversation never happens. It matters most for someone on a different messaging app and for people who find your link on a name tag or in a bio.
